Both Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy are recognised by many therapists and clinicians as being powerful goal-directed therapies . Substantial empirical research supports this fact.
The cognitive behavioural approach is to focus on the root of emotional disturbance our thinking. Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy is a methodology whereby hypnosis is integrated into the Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.

What is a cognitive and behavioural approach?

The cognitive and behavioural approach is based on the philosophy that our own thinking determines how we respond to any situation we encounter. Our thinking, our feelings and our behaviour are interdependent. The ability to recognise the interdependency of thinking, feeling and behaviour, together with the acceptance of emotional responsibility, is the core of our emotional wellbeing and can also contribute significantly to our physical health.

Every day we face events which can contribute to our emotional responses; however, they do not cause the response. In fact, it is inconsequential as to whether an event is real or imaginary. We are not disturbed or upset by events themselves, rather, it is how we have learned to react to them. If events were responsible for our reactions then we would all react in the same way to any given event. The reaction which coincides with an event is a consequence of what we choose to believe about the event.

More about events

An event might be a person, a place, an occurrence, a world disaster, an illness or a rejection, and our emotional response to such an event is within our control. In other words, each of us is responsible for our own emotional reaction to an event; this responsibility is not shared with others. Likewise, we are not accountable for the emotional responses sustained by other people to events which result from our actions or behaviour, even if our behaviour may have been a contributing trigger. How often have you heard statements such as: Missing a deadline makes me feel awful , The state of the world depresses me, Bad driving drives me mad , She makes me so angry or, Public Speaking scares me? The fact is that none of these events make you feel anything. However, these events can trigger thoughts, and it is these thoughts which can result in either healthy or unhealthy emotions or symptoms.
Our beliefs about certain events can be rational, healthy and flexible or they may be irrational, unhealthy and inflexible. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy focuses on irrational, unhealthy and inflexible beliefs which may result in a myriad of unhealthy consequences, (for example anger, depression, anxiety, headaches, eating problems, IBS and unhealthy behaviours).

Missing a deadline by itself does not make you feel awful. However, your belief that missing a deadline is something which must not happen might be the reason you feel awful . Missing a deadline is an event which has a trigger that activates an unhealthy/irrational belief you are holding. Likewise, the state of the world and bad driving do not make you do or feel anything. They are events which have a trigger that activates unhealthy /irrational beliefs.

It is a fact of life that bad, sometimes very bad, things do happen; life can be very difficult, uncomfortable and unfair. The manner in which we perceive these negative events determines our response. It is important to recognise that the approach which assumes that you have responsibility for your emotional responses neither condones badness nor suggests that we have responsibility for badness which may take place. However, this approach does presuppose that we have a choice about how we respond to events in our lives, irrespective of their perceived goodness or badness.

Whether your feelings or behaviour in response to an event in your life are appropriate or inappropriate depends on whether the belief triggered by the event is a healthy or unhealthy belief.

More about beliefs

Our beliefs can be healthy or unhealthy. A healthy belief is realistic, rational, appropriate and flexible. An unhealthy belief is unrealistic, irrational, inappropriate and rigid. It is the unhealthy beliefs which give rise to unhealthy consequences, for example anger, jealousy, guilt, anxiety, depression, low self-esteem and self-worth, obsessions , self pity, world pity, behavioural problems (such as eating issues, excessive drinking and avoidance), physical problems (such headaches and IBS) and much more.

In accordance with the philosophy of cognitive behavioural therapy, unhealthy beliefs are a consequence of having rigid rules about how we would like life to occur. Our strong preferences as to how we would like life to be have developed into irrational, rigid and dogmatic demands which we believe must be met; if not, we become disturbed in ways such as described above.

The aim of cognitive behavioural therapy is not about changing your preferences! The aim is to help you to change your unhealthy thinking so that logically and emotionally you are able to accept:
just because I really want my preferences in life to be met, that does not mean they have to be met and that when lifes events are contrary to my desires and hopes it is not an indicator that life is awful, people are awful or that you are a failure and worthless and that you cannot cope.

How does Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy compare to Cognitive Behavioural Therapy?

While the philosophy behind cognitive behavioural hypnotherapy and cognitive behavioural therapy is the same, hypnosis, which is a means of enhancing communication, can influence the effectiveness of the therapy. Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy simply involves the integration of hypnosis into the therapy. Hypnosis and cognitive behavioural therapy are a powerful combination. Hypnosis enhances the effectiveness of therapy and also can bring about results in fewer sessions than might be needed otherwise.

There was a time when all people were created equal. No one was better that the other person. There were no nasty eyes looking over you, judging your hair, your eyes, your clothes. Unfortunately, most babies only live in the hospital for a couple of days and once they are discharged from that careful setting, the world immediately begins to judge everything they do and everything about them. Our society has grown to rely more on the way a person looks and the amount of money a person makes than the types of person they are on the inside and the worth of that person in our overall societal setting. This societal aim has brought issues of self confidence to the forefront of many peoples lives and the time has come to take back that confidence.

The Causes of a Lack of Self Esteem

From the time children get old enough to understand that not everyone has been created the same, they begin to judge people. If a school mates clothing appears dirty, they immediately assume they have less money. If a school mate always wears the best of clothing, they must be rich and if a school mate is shy, they must have something to hide. As children grow older and reach the teenage years, these judgments often become more verbal and begin to create a lasting effect on the minds of some people. This judging is at the heart of a lack of confidence. The more someone tells you something is wrong with you, the more you tend to believe it.

Hypnosis and Confidence

One way to deal with a trained mind is to revert that mind back to a previous state. In nursery and preschool, everyone is seen in the same light. Friends are friends because two people like each other and foes are created on the playground over silly child games. Hypnosis can revert the mind to that former, less judging state. Once the mind remembers what it was like before the judging began, it will feel more comfortable within its surroundings and allow for further growth.

Confidence is a perceived state. We have all known people who are super confident for apparently no reason. They hold their head high and walk with a sense of pride with every step. We look upon them with the green eyes of jealousy. How can we not feel that way about ourselves? The key is, you can! Just as confidence was suppressed by certain actions in life, it can be reborn with a little mind opening help from hypnosis.

There is a spark in the mind that makes us feel as though we are just as good as everyone around us. There are times in our lives, no matter how much we lack self confidence, when we feel that spark. Maybe it is during a business meeting when we are truly prepared and we feel wonderful about being the one who knows more than everyone around us. Maybe it is when we step on the scale and we see that we have lost 5 more pounds. That spark does not have to be a one in a while event. Reigniting that spark on a daily basis simply takes a little practice and a little look into the mind. Hypnosis allows us to see what has built that brick wall between us and our happy lives as confident people. Breaking down those brick walls may take a little time, but in the end, life will be more lively and full of YES decisions instead of I Guess So’s!

Richard Mackenzie asked:

Jealousy is one of the most human of all emotions, and each one of us has experienced it at one time or the other. Jealousy towards your spouse/partner, jealousy towards a sibling, jealousy towards a co-worker, these are but a few examples of this human emotion. While in some cases this jealousy is at a controllable stage, there are yet others when this emotion just takes over the lives of people, and it is then that the warning bells start ringing. Some amount of jealousy is natural to all people, but when it becomes an obsessive trait there is cause to worry, for driven by this Green Devil, we end up hurting the people we love and causing mental torture to both them and us. Once you have identified this emotion as one that has to be dealt with, hypnotherapy for jealousy is one of the most effective routes you could take to control it.
Jealousy, is a result of an over active imagination and an underlying insecurity. As someone rightly said, “an idle mind is a devil’s workshop”. This misguided imagination makes us do some terrible things. You can’t stop thinking about your partner, each and every innocent thing that he says and does, seem to take on epic proportions of infidelity to you. You find yourself imagining scenarios about your partner, and in the process torment yourself. You know that it’s not good for your relationship, but you simply can’t stop. Jealousy can be tragic and devastating to a relationship, it can create bitterness beyond imagination. In some cases it can lead to domination, controlling behavior and even physical violence; and I do not need to wax eloquent on how effective these things are in killing love and relationships. If you realize that it’s time to keep a check on your jealousy, you have already taken the first step towards bettering situations. Hypnotherapy for jealousy will take you a long way from there.
As I said, jealousy is often caused by our insecurities; hypnotherapy for jealousy takes stock of the past and present events in your life and identifies the core issue, which might be the catalyst to such behavior. Once the trigger is identified, hypnotherapy for jealousy helps you get over the negative emotions, through the power of positive thinking and auto-suggestions. Insecurity is effectively dealt with by changing your self-image and perception. Your self esteem is boosted by auto suggestions, and this reflects in your outward behavior. Your fertile imagination is weeded out thoroughly for unwanted scenes and undesirable stimuli, to give it a more healthy and positive outlook.
Hypnotherapy for jealousy works faster than you can imagine. Your partner will be astounded to see the new you, and it is needless to say that it will bring about a dramatic positive change in your relationship. Gone are the ugly scenes and the nagging suspicion, both you and your partner will benefit from these changes. If you stop imagining things, and learn to trust your partner, you will stop torturing yourself mentally. On the other hand, with this renewed trust your partner will feel less threatened and controlled, and will subconsciously react in a positive way towards you. Remember that though you feel your overwhelming love for your partner justifies your desire to control his/her actions, you know deep down it is not the done thing. Add to that the fact that chewing your nails while imagining worst possible scenes involving your mate, and an imaginary “Other” will bring you no good. So its time you got yourself a manicure for your hands, and hypnotherapy for your soul.

Create a video blog…instantly.

Richard MacKenzie asked:

Overcoming Envy is something that all sufferers would like to accomplish. Envy is one of the most destructive habits that someone can impose on themselves and their friends and family around them. If you suffer from Envy at the moment you will appreciate exactly what I mean and just how upsetting it can be to yourself and your relations with folks that you care for.

Each and every year in my therapy practice here in the UK I help hundreds of people and couples that have suffered at the hands of Envy for a long time. By the point that they come and see me the Envy has undoubtedly taken its toll on everything that they love and care about. It is amazing that something that begins in our imagination can soon ignite out of control and cause such upsetting damage.

Envy can be ignited by loads of things; but it nearly always sparks from some sort of insecurity. I have helped many people where their Envy ignited because of their partner having an affair. I have also helped people that put the whole thing down to being picked on while a teenager or a farther or mother leaving while they were young. Whatever the reason if Envy is not resolved then it will grow and cause major problems within present and future relations.

With people that need my help in getting over Envy I use Hypnotherapy and Emotional Freedom Technique. Both practices are incredibly successful in treating Envy. The Emotional Freedom Technique can work fast to improve all of the harmful emotions linked with Envy, while the Hypnotherapy can help them to rebuild their lives.

If utilised over only a small period of time, Hypnotherapy and Emotional Freedom Technique can help you to wholly get over your Envy and to move on in your life. Just picture being able to do all of the stuff that make you cheerful instead of having all of those unconstructive thoughts and emotions running around within your head. picture not having to fixate and worry over every little thing.

So if Envy is an issue for you and you need to overcome it and move on, then these treatments could be appropriate for you. When selecting a therapist, make sure that they are fully qualified and insured, either get in touch with a local Hypnotherapy and Emotional Freedom Technique to get more information and to find a therapist that is local to you.

Create a video blog…instantly.
